This past week I have learned alot about myself and where givin questions and useful advice in becoming a good peer mentor.
To start of the week I attended Iowa State Leadership Experience (ISLE). Because of previous scheduled meetings I was only able to attended one session. The session I attended was Facilitation Virtual and Face-to-face Meetings. In the meeting we focused on virtual meetings. Even though I will not need to use this in my peer mentor experence I was able to take the information I learned and apply it to planing a lesson plan. Some usefull tips they had were always plan ahead, not get off topic, be flexible with your time, and many more tips. They went over what you should do before the meeting, at the start of the meeting, durning the meeting and at the end of the meeting. I feel these suggestions can be applied to lessons as well. Over all I feel it was a benificial session to attend.
This week I also attended Learning Community Mini Institute. The session I attended was the Student-faculty Interaction, Whats the big deal? Before this session I always knew it was a good idea to interact with your professors and faculty. This session gave me many benefits of doing this, some that I would not have though of previously. It also talked about how they interact with Faculty in there Learning Communities. During the session they talked about how they provided and encourage student-faculty interaction. I did not realize how big of an impact Learning communities can be. I feel this is great to know so I can I have all the knowledge of what this university has to offer.
Overall I have learn very usefull tips to start off my peer mentor experience!
